The move to a physical fence

The home project that followed a containment system I no longer trusted.

By August 2026, I had stopped using our wireless containment system and installed a physical fence around the yard. The decision followed time spent trying to make the earlier system useful. I had reached the point where I did not trust it enough to continue.

Why I changed the approach

I wanted an effective way to keep our dog contained. With the wireless system, the boundary had felt inconsistent. We tried finding suitable positions for the equipment, used multiple collars and replaced batteries. The effort and repeat purchases did not give me enough confidence in the result.

We also stopped the training. It did not make sense to me to continue putting effort into an approach when the equipment remained so inconsistent in our use. I decided to change how we handled the problem.

Changing the approach at home

Installing the physical fence was that change of approach. The product decision became a physical project around the house: moving away from the wireless system and putting a fence around the yard.

That was the outcome I described in my August ownership account. The reason for making the change was clear to me: I had spent enough time and effort on an arrangement I still did not trust. I stopped using it and moved to the physical fence.

A different kind of decision

The physical fence marks a change in the problem I was willing to keep working on. With the wireless system, the repeated questions concerned placement, collars, batteries and whether I could rely on the boundary. By August, I had decided that continuing to work through those questions was no longer the right approach for our yard.

The fence belongs in the home-project collection because that ownership decision led to a physical change around the house. The companion PetSafe account follows the product experience in more detail. This chapter records the consequence: I stopped investing effort in the earlier arrangement and installed a fence. The recorded decision is clear, while the final layout, materials and installation sequence are not documented here. Those details would be needed before turning this into a construction walkthrough.
