American Industrial Leadership

Reporting on industrial control, manufacturing capability and independent supply for American equipment builders.

The reporting project

This project examines how industrial capability changes hands and what those decisions leave available to American equipment builders. The Danfoss–Eaton investigation brings the acquisition, the White Drive divestiture and the China sale into one source-backed account.

The Industry collection organizes the work into eight distinct topics. Supporting case chapters, essays and archive reports are linked within those topics.

The work a finished report should make possible

A useful report should let a reader identify the product or capability at issue, understand who controls it and see which evidence supports the account. The next step should be concrete: a better question for a supplier, an investment gap worth investigating or a distinction that changes how an industrial claim is read.

The eight topics provide different routes into that work. The case chapters examine a defined transaction; trade reporting follows carefully bounded goods; equipment comparisons examine stated configurations. Their common purpose is to make American industrial capability easier to inspect and harder to describe only through announcements or brand names.
