CONEXPO 2026 was my first time attending the show while representing White Motors & Steering. I had been before, but this visit connected several chapters of my working life: logistics, drilling, trucks, hydraulics, construction equipment and manufacturing. The same equipment could be viewed as a machine to sell, a load to move or a collection of components somebody has to keep available.
There was a more personal reminder of that connection in an elevator. People I understood to be competitors recognized the company I represented. I remembered the encounter because it showed how far the reputation of a hydraulic business could travel. It was one conversation, not a survey of the company’s standing in another country.

What stood out in South Hall
The upper level of South Hall left me with a strong impression of importers and manufacturers based outside the United States. My immediate notes tried to put a number on it. I had not counted the exhibitors, however, so that impression should remain an observation about my visit rather than a claim about their share of the show or the market.

American flags were visible across the equipment: hanging from cranes and trucks, displayed on walls and desks, and incorporated into the presentation of hydraulic motors. That imagery prompted the question I wanted to pursue. What does American capability mean when the flag, the brand, the corporate owner and the factory can point to different places?

The photograph is the beginning of the inquiry
A photograph can establish which booth I stood in front of and what was displayed there. It cannot establish the origin of every component, the factory’s capacity or whether its product is a qualified alternative for a particular American machine. Those questions require the manufacturer’s records and the application evidence.
That is the reporting opportunity I brought home. Choose a component, identify the work it performs and follow the organizations needed to design, manufacture, qualify, supply and support it. Then examine what American businesses can do themselves, what they obtain elsewhere and which capabilities would take the longest to replace.
My argument for industrial leadership begins there. The useful outcome is more dependable productive capability: people who understand the application, suppliers able to meet it and a business arrangement that keeps equipment working. CONEXPO made those connections visible. The next task is to examine them closely enough that the flag on a machine becomes the opening question, rather than the answer.
Two manufacturers to examine closely
The following chapters move into the displays at WEITAI and Ningbo Zhongyi, with my photographs at each stand. They are separate manufacturers with specific offerings. The label chapter then turns from a booth’s presentation to the origin wording on individual Danfoss products.
